Intense Retail Design
Vincent Iaboni

Vincent Iaboni has been working in the field of POP (Point-of-Purchase) displays and
visual merchandising fixtures and displays for more than 15 years. Working with brands
and retailers, he creates eye-catching visual displays that reflect distinctive brand
qualities effectively within a retail setting, taking into account price-point, brand
differentiation, interactivity and unique retail requirements. His work has represented a
range of high-profile consumer products in a variety of markets.

Using formZ as a tool to develop spatial relationships he can hone in on an idea and
then refine it to completion, returning to the image at multiple stages during the
developmental process and taking a concept from rough sketch to final digital image.
With formZ, says Vincent, “Going from concept to visual image is very intuitive and
quick”.

After meeting with a client to determine the needs of the project, Vincent uses rough
sketches as a personal ideation tool, an “internal conversation” to rough out an idea for
further development. He then uses formZ to explore geometry and proof of concept,
moving on to colour development only when he is satisfied with the object’s structure
and appearance. Final digital images are presented to a client either digitally via email
or in person for final approval. formZ is also used to create rough conceptual
construction drawings that are used in the creation of final engineering drawings with
software such as AutoCad, allowing for the manufacture of the final concept.

In Collaboration with the Zolos Team
The KOOL project was created on a shorter than usual timeline; Vincent had the initial
ideas but not the resources or time to take his rough sketches to the finished digital
image stage. He turned to the Zolos production team for assistance, giving them the
sketches and communicating digitally with them via email, ftp, and web to give them
direction and approval at every stage of development. Because of this seamless
communication, Zolos was able to create a series of working digital models and final
renderings from his original rough sketches without compromising quality or timeline.

Vincent has used many other 3D modeling packages in the past, but he feels that formZ
offers the broadest range of abilities for an extremely reasonable price-point, and its
dual-platform (Mac and PC) abilities as well as the ease with which files can be moved
between it and 3rd party applications such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop make it
“the best package for what I do”.
