Promoting the unity of technical and aesthetic design, the firm of Richard Stevens Architects (RSA), have incorporated formZ into their design process. The concept takes shape in formZ, beginning with the programming stage, where building functions are blocked out in three dimensions. Nathanael Gray*, architect and experienced formZ user, explains that all projects are explored in terms of spatial analysis.

RSA has always been a model-making office. With formZ they can now explore forms that are difficult to imagine, envision, and build. Projects realized with formZ include the Engineering College in Sharjah, UAE, and the Canadian Canoe Museum in Peterborough. The museum design features folding surfaces inspired by canoe profiles, a prototype that is difficult to investigate with traditional modeling techniques. In approaching the challenge, Gray had confidence in formZ's ability to accomplish the task.

He attributes this to the consistent, logical syntax throughout the program, making it possible to locate the precise modeling tool required.

RSA also use PhotoShop for image editing and Microstation for 2D production. RSA, in joint venture with Arthur Erickson, were awarded second prize in an international design competition held by ETISALAT (Emirates Telecommunications Corporation).

"Clients love to be able to see the project in full colour to visualize exactly what they are getting-it gives credibility to the project and is very successful in promoting the design."
